Fashion's symbiotic relationship with the entertainment industry came into a little clearer focus this week with the announcement that Star Avenue Capital had acquired a majority interest in Los Angeles jeans maker J Brand.
Star, based in Century City, is part of a partnership that includes New York private equity firm Irving Place Capital and Century City talent agency powerhouse Creative Artists Agency.

Sales traders as recently as four years ago took care of executing 69 percent of trades, Tabb said in its survey of 66 head traders at traditional asset management firms. Now, Tabb projects that the percentage of trades that will be executed by mathematical formulas on computers will reach 36 percent of all trades for the asset managers this year. That will compare to just 33 percent executed through sales traders in 2010 -- a drop of 36 percent.
Berke also pointed out that algo trading consistently has exceeded expectations. A year ago, Tabb projected that algorithms would be used for 28 percent of the asset managers trades in 2009. The actual result: 31 percent.
Sales traders actually gained share in 2008, in the midst of the credit crisis. But that turned out to "be a blip, not a trend,'' Berke said, against a general decline in the share of trading they have been asked by asset managers to handle.

“Market intelligence merges the research team together with market experts and market strategists,” says Josh Heitsenrether, senior vice president of strategic services. “We’ve merged the two together to field larger studies of the database, larger studies of the market and combine all of that with ‘feet on the street’ kind of insights rolled into one package that serve longer term relationships that are independent of an advertising campaign with us.” The second piece is a wide grouping of marketing services. “We have the ability to offer content services and analysis and we have analysts who can offer lead modeling and scoring, and roadmaps for how to take leads down the sales path,” says Heitsenrether.
Integrated programs offer direct execution services for clients. “As resources become more challenging on the customer side, we’ve been able to step up with planning and execution of very complicated integrated marketing campaigns,” says Heitsenrether.
