Miami, FL (PRWEB) December 16, 2009 -- Backlinks are one-way inbound links originating on any website and pointing directly into "your" website. Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing see backlinks as "votes" for your website based on the premise that the links are not reciprocal; that is, the link into the website is not returned or reciprocated by a link coming from your website.
In the competitive online marketplace, the number and the quality of backlinks have a strong affect and influence on the search engines, their algorithms, and ultimately the Search Engine Results Pages or SERPs. It follows then that websites are competing for backlinks that are targeted towards relevant keywords. Competing websites need to know ultimately if they are competing effectively by getting these backlinks at a faster clip (higher rate of change) than their competitor's are. New websites need to know how many backlinks they will need to become "1st page competitive" for their targeted keywords and audience.
However, serious SEO Professionals and website owners know that those on page 1 are not there by accident. In addition, they surely are not sitting on page 1 self-satisfied and doing nothing further. The fact is that they are continuing to earn valuable backlinks to maintain their high positions.

Global Publishing Group has just unveiled plans for The London Weekly, a title it says will launch on 1 February with a distribution of 250,000 copies every Friday and Saturday.
However, The London Weekly team argues that it can succeed by involving its readership in generating content and advertisers should be able to take advantage of a “Friday feeling” when commuters are likely to be more receptive to advertising or ad features.

Paste: Was moving from directing All Things Considered to focusing purely on music with NPR Music and All Songs Considered simply getting to do what you really love ? or was it a practical change? Bob Boilen: I really loved two jobs at the same time. I loved directing a two-hour live news show; 19 years was enough though. For eight years I did All Songs Considered and All Things Considered. I found myself more and more coming to work with exciting ideas for All Songs Considered including live concerts, guest DJ shows, etcetera and less new ideas for All Things Considered. So I guess the answer is yes, I'm doing what I really love.
Paste: ASC and NPRMusic.org are a kind of broadcast-meets-online magazine media hybrid. How do you see the enterprise fitting into the world of music media? Did you see a hole in the market? Boilen: When I started All Songs Considered in 2000, I felt that there was so much music out there with so little guidance. I received so much music that wasn't being heard, it seemed natural to find a home for the good ones.
Personally I've always thought radio had it over magazines when it came to music coverage. Magazines had to spend time describing the music, we could just let the listener decide and spend our time on the story behind the music. The web and podcasts are much like radio, it is very comfortable fit for us.

At a time when the Duluth school district is looking at a $4.5 million budget deficit, the School Board is facing questions about spending $19,000 to beef up the district’s online presence.
In a 6-1 vote Tuesday, board members hired local blogger Howie Hanson to generate information for the district’s new Web site, www.goduluthschools.com. Hanson is also charged with driving readers to the Web site through Facebook and Twitter. The roughly nine-month contract stipulates that Hanson spend at least 30 hours a week on the endeavor.
The decision has drawn criticism in the blogosphere, with some alleging the district paid too much for a job any kid could do. Gary Glass, the only School Board member who voted against the contract, said at the very least it could have been done by any number of district employees.
